Fundo Flex: wedi presents a flexible design solution for flush-to-floor showers
wedi will be offering an entirely new concept for flush-to-floor showers from February. The Fundo Flex combines maximum flexibility with remarkable design, sophisticated technology and a high standard of hygiene. It not only fits any requirement but also allows for exacting, modern design. The new solution is celebrating its "premiere" at BAU 2025.
The Fundo Flex was developed to help designers and installers overcome common challenges during planning and execution of floor-level showers. "The new linear shower solution is extremely versatile that makes it suitable for any substrate and layout including bathroom renovations on timber," says product manager Vanessa Beer. "This not only means much easier and faster installation, but combined with modern design, maximum reliability and durability, makes our new innovation into a shower solution that fits all requirements."
Aesthetic and flexible
The main reason why the Fundo Flex is so adaptable lies in its customisable channel element and profile; both can be easily cut to size on site and can thus be adjusted to fit any shower. Added bonus: the shower channel can be installed virtually anywhere - by the wall, in the centre or anywhere in between. "The 360° rotatability of the channel profile facilitates precise alignment, and with the help of the included eccentric, the shower channel can be placed at the required angle and distance from the wall," explains Vanessa Beer.
During development, wedi placed a lot of emphasis on the design. "Anyone who decides on a flush-to-floor shower with linear drainage also wants a high-quality look. So, as well as high-quality material and low-construction height, purist design was also taken into account," says wedi Product Manager Beer. The only visible part of the new shower solution, the channel profile is incredibly narrow - just 35 mm wide!
Versatile modular system and maximum hygiene
The Fundo Flex channel element with its modular design is suitable for installation in or on screed and suspended timber floors. Combined with the complementary sloping boards, the channel element along with the appropriate drainage and channel profile forms an entirely new shower system within the wedi Fundo range. The core of the system is of course, the adaptable Fundo Flex with stepped rebates on either side ensuring a secure connection between the channel element and the sloping board(s). Hygiene is also ensured: thanks to its special contour without any edges inside, the drain body with its gooseneck is almost self-cleaning. Integrated within the channel profile, the removable trap catches hair and other debris making the cleaning effortless.
Innovation with a view to the future
The Fundo Flex is the first wedi product to bear the BSFZ seal of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Only products that are particularly innovative and forward-looking are recognized and awarded with this seal. "This is a clear proof of our innovation competence," says wedi Managing Director Fabian Rechlin.
The Fundo Flex system at a glance
- Fundo Flex channel element: stepped rebates on either side ensure a secure connection to the sloping board(s), whilst the eccentric allows the channel profile to be precisely aligned with the wall. It is suitable for installation in screed and suspended timber floors.
- wedi Fundo shower channel 1.0: suitable for tile thicknesses from 6 to 25 mm, the 35mm wide stainless steel channel profile is supplied with an adapter and a removable hair trap. It can not only be cut to size on site, but the central part of the cover, the grid with hair trap can be easily removed for cleaning.
- wedi Fundo Wave drain: available as horizontal DN40 (60 mm height) or DN50 (80 mm height), the drain pot is almost self-cleaning and has an integrated odour trap. Thanks to the safe and simple bayonet lock, the supplied adapter ensures a watertight connection between the channel element and the drain pot.
- wedi Fundo sloping board: like all wedi building boards, Fundo sloping boards can also be easily cut to size. The factory-integrated slope of 1.5% simplifies installation by eliminating labour and efforts involved in creating gradients and waterproofing the shower floor.
